Media Statement The SAPS welcomes the life sentence that was handed down to William Mqeke in the Postmasburg Regional Court, recently. On 3 November 2018 the 22-year-old female victim was drinking with friends at a tavern. And later woke up with the accused on top of her at a shanty. Mqeke threatened her with a knife and raped her twice. The victim laid a charge and the accused was arrested. On 30 March 2022, William Mqeke was sentenced to life in imprisonment for both counts of rape and also declared unfit to possess a firearm. The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences(FCS), Brig Nicky Mills commended Cst Keamogetse Besson from the Postmasburg FCS unit for the meticulous investigation that led to the life incarceration of the perpetrator.
