Mob justice discouraged after four men nabbed for the murder of a youth accused of stealing

The mother of the deceased was phoned that her son was assaulted to death. Apparently he was accused of stealing a property of the four suspects who were arrested for his murder. 

On 03 April 2022 at about 20:30 Me. Maria Lesia (42) residing in Thabong was apparently called about her son Bongani Phama (27) who was being assaulted. He was accused of stealing a property of the four known males residing in the same street in Thabong.

Bongani was tied on an electric pole and hit with wooden sticks and gadern spade. He later passed on and a case of murder was registered after the police was informed about the incident.

The three suspects aged between 40 and 41 were arrested and the fourth one who is 24-year-old handed himself over to the Thabong Police Station today on 06 April 2022.

The four suspects will be charged for murder and will appear soon in the Welkom Magistrate Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General BB Motswenyane sternly warns residents not to take the law into their own hands, rather allow the wheels of justice to roll by reporting such crimes to the Police. "The four suspects arrested are now facing the full might of the law and we are going to ensure that we have a water tight case as such criminality cannot be accepted", concluded the Provincial Commissioner.
