Media Statement from Western Cape Media Centre This morning a 40 year old warrant officer attached to the Steenberg Detective Services was arrested on a charge of corruption, and is due to make a court appearance tomorrow in Wynberg. The Western Cape Anti-Corruption Unit investigated a claim by a suspect who was arrested during last year for illegally being in possession of crayfish that he was alleged approached by the police officer who demanded an amount of R5000 for his release on bail, of which R3000 was paid. Upon finalization of his case during last month, he was again approached by the same police office for more cash to have his vehicle which was confiscated at the time of his arrest, returned. During a clandestine operation during which the agreed transaction was observed, the police officer was arrested in Prince George Park, Grassy Park and detained. SAPS will continue to deliver bad elements within our ranks to the justice system, so that only dedicated crime fighters remain.
