PARKTOWN - Police this morning recovered 30 livestock and two illegal firearms during a shootout with the suspects Zonkezizwe.

It alleged that at approximately 02:30, police from the local police station were conducting routine patrols when they observed a suspicious red Toyota Quantum with two occupants. The members then stopped the vehicle and upon their search two illegal firearms and 10 goats were recovered in the combi. The suspects led the police to their accomplices, where another 10 goats and 10 sheep were recovered.

Upon their arrival three suspects, the suspects noticed that their friends are a companied by the police, and they started to open fire at the police. Police returned fire and one suspect was shot and killed and one police officer was injured and taken to hospital; he is in a stable condition.

Police have launched a search for the suspects that evaded arrest while an investigation is underway to establish if the arrested suspect and the weapons could be linked to other crimes.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela applauded the officers who were observant and vigilant during their patrol.

The arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
