WESTERN CAPE - An Integrated operation to curb the circulation of unlicensed and prohibited firearms in the hands of criminals, yielded positive results when police arrested a suspect in possession of a prohibited firearm.

Harare police were busy with stop and search operations on Thursday 26 May 2022 at around 23:00, near to Block 37, when they noticed a man who appeared to be very nervous. He was searched and found in possession of a firearm without a serial number. The 27-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Provincial Extortion task team were busy with focused operations in Saldanha Bay on Thursday 26 May 2022 at around 21:30 when they responded to information about criminal activity in the area. They operationalised the information and approached a house in Galjoen Street, Diazville, confiscating three firearms and ammunition including a large quantity of drugs. A 46-year-old man was arrested and detained on charges of possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition and possession of drugs.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Vredenburg Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
