Media Statement MATATIELE - The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene applauded two investigating officers from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Matatiele for ensuring that habitual criminal and rapist, Sandile Shadrack Mzikathole (40) was convicted and sentenced to a total of 70 years imprisonment. Mzikathole was sentenced by the Scottburgh High court for several crimes committed in Matatiele from March 2012 to January 2015. The court found that the accused had a propensity to break into residential premises and rape his victims while they were sleeping. He would also steal some belongings such as cellphones, etc before fleeing the scene. Several cases were under investigation however Mzikathole was convicted and sentenced on 11 cases which included the following: Housebreaking with intent to rape - He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment. Rape – He was sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment Theft – He was sentenced to three (03) years imprisonment Housebreaking with intent to rape – He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment. Rape - He was sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment Housebreaking with intent to rape – He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment. Attempted rape – He was sentenced to seven (07) years imprisonment Robbery common – He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment. Housebreaking with intent to rape. He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment. Rape – He was sentenced to ten (10) yearsimprisonment Robbery common – He was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment Although the accused was sentenced to a total of 70 years imprisonment, he would effectively serve thirty (30) years imprisonment. Lt Gen Mene applauded the two detectives, Sgt Bonga and Const Hlangu from Matatiele FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) Unit for the excellent work. “One woman or child that is raped or sexually abused, is one too many therefore every effort must be made to apprehend the perpetrators and secure their incarceration,” added Lt Gen Mene Ends
