Media Statement GQEBERHA - The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Gqeberha is seeking the communities’ assistance in tracing a suspect who allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in May 2022 in Greenbushes. It is alleged that on 31 May 2022 at about 09:00, the suspect approached the unemployed woman at her house in Kuyga and informed her that he knows of a person who was looking for a domestic worker. He further informed the victim that she needed to accompany him so that he can take her to the address in Cape Road. While they were walking in Mission Road, the suspect indicated that they needed to take a short cut through the bushes. While in the thicket, he threatened the victim with a screwdriver and raped her. Her cellphone was also taken. The suspect is known to the victim only through facial recognition as he was seen several times in the area prior to the rape. At the time of the incident, the suspect wore a grey jacket, grey trousers and black shoes. The victim alleged that when she emerged from the bushes and was on her way home, she spotted the suspect at a distance and at that time he was wearing a black jacket. He is approximately between ages 25 and 30, about 1,7m in height and dark in complexion. A case of rape and theft is under investigation.
