POLOKWANE - The concerted efforts of the Police in Limpopo in eradicating criminal activities, especially Trio crimes continue to yield major breakthroughs, following the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect linked to cases of robbery in Namakgale and recovery of a stolen firearm.

The suspect was arrested today, Monday 20 June 2022 at about 08:00 at his rented place in Bosveld Location under Namakgale policing area, subsequent to an intelligence driven joint operation comprising Mopani District Task team and Phalaborwa Crime Intelligence Unit with assistance of Community members.

The Team followed up on information about a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm. One 9mm pistol with one ammunition was recovered during the arrest.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the firearm belongs to a Traffic Official and was stolen in Namakgale during April. The firearm is suspected to have been used in other serious and violent crimes in the Mopani District.

The suspect is currently on bail for several cases of business robbery committed in Namakgale. He will appear in the Namakgale Magistrate's Court tomorrow, 21 June 2022 facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen firearm. The unfolding Police investigation could lead to other charges preferred against him.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the continuous support of community members in the fight against crime.

"The arrest of the suspect and confiscation of the firearm is a clear indication that criminals can never have a space to operate under the watchful eyes of the police and the community in this province," said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
