West Coast K9 Unit arrests suspect with copper cables

WESTERN CAPE - On Monday, 20 June 2022, members of the West Coast K9 Unit were alerted by a staff member at a steel company of suspects that are busy stealing copper cables at a Telkom site in Saldanha Bay. The suspects attempted to evade arrest and went to hide in the nearby bushes. A search was conducted with K9 patrol dog “Keyo” assisted by a drone. A 32-year-old suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a knife, a hacksaw and copper cables with an estimated value of R10 000-00.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrates court on charges of possession of stolen property and casing destruction to essential infrastructure.

In an unrelated matter, members of Khayelitsha police arrested a 31-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Jafta K Masemola Street, Site C Khayelitsha on Monday afternoon. The members were busy searching a premises when they found the suspect in possession of a .38 Special revolver with ammunition. He could not produce a permit or a valid license for the firearm and was arrested.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
