Suspected cocaine worth R111 million recovered at harbour

KWAZULU-NATAL – The Durban based Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau is investigating the source or the link regarding the recovery of the consignment of suspected cocaine in a vessel at the Durban Harbour.

On Saturday 18 June 2022, the Hawks team and SAPS Operational Response Services were alerted about suspicious consignment in a vessel that was ferrying trucks. The team arrived at the said place and recovered canvas bags with 265 bricks of cocaine. The drugs have an estimated value of R111 million. Preliminary investigation was conducted and the ownership of the shipment could not be located.

The drugs were seized subject to an ongoing investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage.
