Information received from the community led to the arrest of a 59-year-old male and a 57-year-old female for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday, 2022-07-04 at 22:30.

Members attached to Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit searched an address at Heathfield Court, Atlantis, and found a firearm with ammunition underneath the bath. The owners of the house were arrested and after questioning they told the police that they believe the firearm belongs to their 31-year-old son who was not present at the time of the raid. The two suspects will appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s court once charged.

In an unrelated matter, Worcester SAPS members arrested a 29-year-old man at his home, after his wife pointed him out for raping his two year old daughter.

On 2022-07-05 at about 06:45 the mother left their two year old child with her father and requested him to take the child to her nanny for the day, but he did not.

The mother came back from work and the child informed the mother that the father did something to her. The mother called the fathers brother and the child was taken to Thuthuzela Centre where she was examined and a case of rape was opened.

The father ran away but was apprehended later the day at their home. Once charged he will appear in the Worcester Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.

Furthermore, on 2022-07-05 at approximately 09:50 members attached to Flying Squad were doing routine patrols in the Athlone area when they spotted a suspicious looking male. When they stopped to search him, the man took a firearm from the front of his tracksuit pants and tossed it over the wall into a premises. The members immediately jumped over the wall and found a firearm with 10 rounds of ammunition. The suspect, aged 24 was then arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate court once charged.
