DURBAN – Special Investigations and Tracking Task Team as well as Organised Crime Unit followed intelligence information regarding a male that was wanted for charges of murder and attempted murder. A 55-year-old suspect was traced to Caluza area in Pietermaritzburg where he was arrested and detained at Plessislaer SAPS.

It is alleged that on 14 March 2022 at 19:30, Thandokwakhe Mchunu (31) and his 14-year-old niece were at their home in Imbali Township when three unknown men came inside their yard and started firing shots towards them. They both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and the father was declared dead at the scene whilst his daughter was rushed to hospital for medical attention. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Plessislaer SAPS. The suspect will appear before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on 8 July 2022.
