From last night at 19:30 30 July 2023 until this morning at 3:00 am Operation Shanela led by Westrand District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana made its meaning understood to those who don't obey the law at the two neighbouring policing precincts of Carletonville and Khutsong

Even the freezing weather conditions could not stop law enforcement agencies and their relevant stakeholders from squeezing the space for criminality. With unwavering support by partners and stakeholders that included the MMC for Public Safety Cllr. Nasiwe Mcetywa, MMC for Integrated Environmental Management Ms Dipuo Segakweng, GautengTraffic Insp. Maimane, Merafong city Traffic Supt. Dilima, local CPF chairperson Mr Lebogang Zibi, Khutsong CPF Pro Ms Refilwe Ntshabele, security companies, Crime prevention Wardens and community safety patrollers, powers of law ensured the removal of law transgressors as they prioritise the safety of residents in the two policing precincts.

With disruptive operations conducted from last night till in the early hours of this morning, the District detectives successfully traced and effected 18 arrests on wanted and known suspects, whilst Crime prevention groups made a total number of 28 arrests.

The operation was four (4) phased, with one(01) roadblock staged at Annan Road cross & P111 Road roads whereas two(2) Crime prevention and FLASH groups focused on Carletonville CBD, Blyvooruitzight, Blybank and Khutsong Ext. 3, Sonerwater and Cross roads.

Vehicle check point(VCP) was also part of the operation. (VCP) was also another phase that was conducted at points perceived to be hot spots for hijackings and armed robberies, also targeting those driving under the influence of alcohol.

Of the 18 arrests successfully effected by the detectives 08x assault GBH, 1x fraud, 2x theft, 2x assault common,  1x reckless and negligence driving, 1x robbery with weapon other than firearm, 1x use of vehicle without owner’s consent, 2x MITP,

The two Crime prevention and FLASH groups and roadblock made 28 arrests with two (02) illegal shebeens shut down where 77 190ml of liquor confiscated and the owners arrested.

During the operation, Crime prevention groups further arrested twenty four (24) drunk and driving, 1x possession of suspected drugs, 1x possession of suspected stolen property.

The District Commissioner thanked all who contributed to the successful arrests of the chilliest night and for giving their best to ensure the safety of law abiding citizens. All arrested suspects will appear before magistrate court soon.
