Intelligence driven operation lands suspect behind bars for possession of firearms

WESTERN CAPE - The priority of police in the Western Cape to eradicate the illegal possession of firearms led to the arrest of a 31-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and the possession of an imitation firearm on Tuesday afternoon. Members of the Nyanga Crime Prevention Unit and the Nyanga Cluster Crime Intelligence conducted an intelligence driven operation in Maumau, Nyanga and searched a premises and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition and a rifle gas gun on the premises.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court.

In an unrelated matter members of Harare police assisted a vehicle tracking company with a vehicle that was hijacked in Langa area. The vehicle made an accident in Makhaza, Khayelitsha last night at about 22:50 where the suspect was apprehended. The vehicle was searched and a 9mm pistol with ammunition was confiscated. A 23-year-old suspect was arrested and detained on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspect will make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court.
