Western Cape Police:  Today (2015-02-27) at about 08:30 police attached to the Sea Border Patrol was performing crime prevention duties in the vicinity of Constantia Nek when they spotted a suspicious white Nissan LDV. Acting on their suspicion, they decided to follow the vehicle, and when the driver of the LDV saw the police he began driving recklessly, which resulted in a high speed chase ending when the driver collided into a tree at the Corners of Canterbury Road and Rhodes Avenue in Claremont. A 28 year old suspect was arrested and 500kg in weight of abalone was recovered in the vehicle. The suspect was admitted to hospital under police guard for medical attention.  He is due to appear in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
