And Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS)

Cape Town - The National Joint Operational and Intelligence structure comprising of various strategic government departments will today continue with its simulation exercises as part of its security readiness for the upcoming State of the Nation Address.

Security planning for this event began late last year and the various role-players are very satisfied that every little detail has been attended to.

The simulation exercises or dry-run is merely putting into practice what was has been drafted on paper. This worldwide phenomenon has been a common practice for the policing of every event in South Africa, including the events such as the World Summit of Sustainable Development (WSSD), the 13 World Aids Conference, the AU and OAU Summit, the 2010 FIFA World Cup to mention just a few. South Africa is renowned for for it ability in delivering such events successfully, so much so that the WSSD security plan was adopted by the United Nations as their blue-print for all United Nations events.

The State of the Nation Address (SoNA) is no different. This event is the largest event on the South African Parliamentary calendar and the successful planning for this event is equally critical.

Therefore, the simulation exercises will be heightened today and we implore upon the people of Cape Town and surrounding areas to please be patient with the security forces for the duration of the simulation exercises and the event itself.

Our attention has also been drawn to planned demonstrations by certain sectors of community. Every persons democratic right to air their views and grievances will be respected and it is the security forces' request that this is undertaken within the confines of the law and in areas designated for such actions. The designated areas are as follows:-

- Corner of Keizersgracht & Primrose Streets, Zonnebloem
- Grand Parade, Darling Street, Cape Town

Moving forward, we want to thank the community of Cape Town for their unwavering support and their respect for toward the road closures during practices. People have gathered in large numbers to feast their eyes on the daily practices by various participants.
