WESTERN CAPE - A former police officer who was attached at Lingelethu West SAPS is awaiting conclusion of his trial after he was convicted of one (1) count of robbery with aggravating circumstances by the Atlantis Regional Court.

The Hawks' Serious Corruption Crime Investigation probe revealed that during 2009 Thembinkosi Lesele (47) used his official firearm to rob a delivery van and personnel of cellphones and cash to the value of R40 000-00.

Lesele is expected to be sentenced on the 22 April 2021, following today's judgement in the Atlantis Regional Court.

The Acting Provincial Head, Brigadier Ramovha has welcomed the conviction and applauded the investigating team.
