Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre On 15 April 2016 at about 20:00 Pietermaritzburg SAPS members conducted an intelligence driven operation in their area following up information about drugs. Their operation yielded results when they arrested a suspect (30) who was found in possession of 11 packets of cocaine, 10 grams of methacathinone, 74 ecstasy tablets and R4820 cash at Victoria street, Pietermaritzburg. On further investigation he was also found in possession of 122 cloned debit cards, credit cards and gift cards. Members went to his house at Imbali area where they found an unlicensed CZ75 and 9mm Norinco pistol including fake identity documents. He was charged for possession of drugs and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 April 2016. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised the members who made an arrest and the recovery of drugs and unlicensed firearm. ‘We will ensue that those dealing in drugs will be arrested. We appeal to the community to provide information to the police about those drug dealers who destroy the lives of our children. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crime in the province, she said.
