Operation Basadi actions executed today yielded successes in the greater Kathu and Postmasburg areas.

A female law enforcement multi-disciplinary parade was held at the Siyathemba police station in Kathu.  This year's Women's month campaign was celebrated under the theme:  Women's socio-Economic rights, Empowerment and resilience.

This multi-disciplinary operation with support from Provincial and local traffic, the Department of Correctional Services, Home Affairs, Kumba Mine, Community in blue patrollers, the CPF and other external role players formed part of the police actions.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola was in the forefront and kicked off the activities with a parade and relayed the purpose of the day.

The dignitaries and members were formally welcomed in Kathu by a representative from the Joe Taolo District Municipality.

Messages of support were delivered by the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili, the District Commissioner of Ekurhuleni, Maj Gen Anna Sithole, who is also the National Women's Network Champion, the Provincial CPF Chairperson Mr Ephraim Homan.

The messages were followed by a very encouraging keynote address by the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Me Nomandla Bloem.

Members from Men for Change National Executive Committee as well as the National Executive of the Women's Network were in attendance.

Northern Cape Provincial Women's Network Champion, Brig Thabo Moeng directed the programme in conjunction with the National Secretary of Men for Change, SAC Mudauis.

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Maj Gen Henriette De Waal delivered the vote of thanks and urged the members to be alert and vigilant when they performed their duties.

The operations commenced with two static roadblocks on Kathu / Postmasburg as well as on the Kathu/ Kuruman roads, which resulted in numerous successes.

MEC Bloem, Lt Gen Mosikili, Lt Gen Otola and the entourage engaged with motorists and distributed marketing material while interacting with community members.

The teams visited several scrap metal dealers and second hand goods outlets and conducted compliance inspections in both Kathu and Postmasburg.

Mass blue light patrols and raiding of liquor outlets to stamp down the authority of the state brought a sense of calmness and tranquillity into the mining towns.
