Media Statement BOHLOKONG - Two men from Extension 8, Bohlokong, have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms by the Free State High Court, following separate cases of femicide. Both cases were initially heard at the Bethlehem Magistrate's Court. On Wednesday, 30 July 2025, Pheello Samson Nkosi (52) was found guilty of the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Itumeleng Mofokeng (27). The incident occurred on Friday, 7 March 2025, at approximately 19:45 in Bohlokong Extension 8. Following an argument, Nkosi stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife, leaving her lying in the street before walking away. The following day, 8 March 2025, Nkosi contacted the police using a friend’s phone and surrendered himself. He was arrested, and the weapon used in the crime was seized and submitted as evidence. Nkosi was sentenced to 30 years of direct imprisonment. In a separate incident, Petrus “Lenka” Mofokeng (41), also of Bohlokong Extension 8, was found guilty on the same day and sentenced to 25 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Sibongile Mbele (31). The crime occurred at a local shebeen, where an argument between the couple escalated. Mbele attempted to remove herself from the situation by leaving the venue, but the accused followed her and fatally stabbed her multiple times in the street. He was arrested at the scene, and the weapon was seized. Both cases were diligently investigated by Detective Sergeant Moeketsi Ernest Mokoena of the Bohlokong Detective Unit. The South African Police Service commends the National Prosecuting Authority for securing convictions in both matters and extends its appreciation to the investigating officer for his exceptional work. These successful prosecutions contribute to restoring public trust in the police service within the Bohlokong community. The SAPS urges the community to treat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) with the utmost seriousness. We call on all members of society—regardless of gender—to support ongoing awareness campaigns aimed at preventing such tragedies. Violence is not a solution. It only leads to death and imprisonment. Let us work together to build a peaceful and respectful society.
