Media Statement MIDDLEDRIFT - The Western Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Tembekile Phathekile with the other Senior Officers paid their last respect to Sergeant Mnakwazo Mdoko who was laid to rest at his home at Ngqolowa Location, Middledrift outside King William's Town today 14 March 2021. Mr Mdoko who was speaking on behalf of the family described Sergeant Mdoko as a soldier who died while serving the community of South Africa. He was born by a single mother whom he was attached to and also a breadwinner who left behind his wife, two children (daughters) and his siblings. Let not his death be in vain, we urge police not to mess with the investigation and also the NPA to ensure that the suspects rot in jail in paying for their wrongdoings, he pleaded. The Kraaifontein SAPS Station Commander Colonel Mnonopheli Magobiyane also described the Sergeant as a team worker who was so humble and used to be a relief Commander in the absence of their Commander. The Station Commander further explained that his team was so good in police generated crimes and in closing shebeens to ensure that no crime is committed and he was always gathering information that led to perpetrators being arrested. He was a dedicated member who had a passion on his job and he died during his tour of duty, he explained. Major General Tembekile Phathekile thanked the family on borrowing SAPS such a soldier who didn't embarrass the family as he took the oath as a Police Officer and he died serving the South African citizens. SAPS is so heartbroken about the loss of such a dedicated, loyal and loving member, he added. He also informed the family that nine suspects were arrested and five firearms were recovered including the two service firearms that were robbed from these members. Within three days the suspects were arrested and we will ensure that bail is denied and our hope is for the life imprisonment, he further explained. He encouraged the community in assisting police in the fight against crime and also promised and commit that SAPS will continue ensuring that the South African citizens are safe and secure. The Chaplain W/O (Rev) Mzileni comforted the family and colleagues by saying let us have hope from our God who knew us before we were formed in our mother's womb. He further said to the family they must not cry as if they do not have hope as Lord Jesus is our hope. Mr Kose appreciated the efforts by both the Western and Eastern Cape Police members and that their son was buried with respect and dignity that he deserves. Ends
