Court Update: Off duty Constable murdered

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN– The SAPS Management in the Eastern Cape expressed their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of an off duty Constable who was fatally wounded on Saturday evening, 7 February 2015.

The 28-year-old, Constable Axolile Nojekwa’s body was discovered by community members near Bethel College between Butterworth and Centane on 7 March 2015 at about 19:05. They alerted Msobomvu SAPS who attended the scene and it was established that the deceased suffered upper and lower body injuries. The motive for the murder is under investigation and we wish not to speculate with regard to the possible cause of death. Constable Nojekwa was attached to the Butterworth police station.

The suspect, a 37-year-old Constable attached to Centane SAPS handed himself at Msobomvu SAPS on Sunday 08 March 2015 relating to the death of Constable Nojekwa. He has been charged with murder and will appear in the Butterworth Magistrates Court on 10 March 2015.

The accused, 37 year old Constable Elliot Ndzwayiba briefly appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate Court this morning of Tuesday 10 March 2015. He was not asked to plead and his case postponed to Tuesday 17 March 2015 for further investigation. The bail was opposed and he remained in custody.
