Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – On Thursday, 15 September 2022 two accused, Vasuthevan Naicker (56) who is one of the company directors of Aqua Transport and Plant Hire, appeared together with his accomplice, Stephen Cahi (53). They were charged with fraud and corruption. During 2010 to 2013, Aqua Transport and Plant Hire Pty Ltd was awarded a plant hire contract to supply plants for the upgrade of the road in Nongoma area. Cahi who was an engineer allegedly inflated the plant hire hours, as a result the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport was defrauded more than R1.6 million. A case of fraud and corruption was reported at the Pietermaritzburg police station and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation hence they were arrested today, 15 September 2022. They were released on R10 000-00 bail each and the case was postponed to 12 October 2022. More arrests are expected. Ends
