WESTERN CAPE - Marlon van Wyk was handed a life sentence and 75 years in prison in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s court yesterday, 15 September 2022, for his crime spree.

Van Wyk committed a series of crimes from 2017 until he was nabbed by the Anti-Gang Unit detectives in 2020. The ‘Skombiso’ gang member was arrested following an intensive investigation into the murder of a 61-year-old male in 2020. The victim was walking with his daughter in Kraaifontein when two suspects walked up to him and opened fire, fatally wounding him. During the investigation, the accused was positively linked to the crime and other dockets that linked him to various incidents were obtained and placed on the court roll.

The 23-year-old man was convicted on six counts and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 45 years’ imprisonment for three counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, and an additional 30 years for two counts of attempted murder.

SAPS Management in the Western Cape commends the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Thabo Mawanda of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Anti-Gang Unit and welcomes the hefty sentence handed to the perpetrator.
