Media Statement from Eastern Cape
Media Centre 16 April 2014 KING WILLIAM'S TOWN - As the Easter long weekend is upon us, SAPS Eastern Cape is ready with the implementation of Operation Paseka. "Operation Paseka" is aimed at ensuring that all people in the Eastern Cape are and feel safe during the Easter holidays. The operation will focus on police priority crime areas throughout the province. The planned operations are intended to primarily prevent all crimes, particularly serious crimes such as aggravated robberies, crimes against women and children, all forms of assaults, stock theft to name but a few. The proliferation of firearms and other dangerous weapons will be another operational priority, as these are used in muggings and attacks of innocent people. We will also focus on illegal shebeens and abuse of alcohol by individuals. All roads in the province will also be closely monitored to detect any criminality during this holiday period. The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Celiwe Binta assures all the Eastern Cape communities and visitors that SAPS members will be deployed in all priority areas to ensure the safety of all people. "We will be out in full force and we will not tolerate any form of criminality", she said. "All our support systems are in place and we are ready to respond to any form of eventuality", she added. The South African Police Service wishes the people of Eastern Cape a peaceful and joyous long weekend. -End- Media Enquiries: Colonel
