POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has again warned communities against vigilante activities.

This follows an incident that occurred at Extension 10 in Burgersfort, on Sunday, 25 February 2024 at around 13:30, whereby community members attacked three males who were suspected of being involved in robbery cases in the area. The victims were assaulted with various objects.

Police were summoned to the scene, and they quickly responded. Emergency Medical Service was also notified. Community members noticed the Police and immediately dispersed into different directions. Two victims were rescued with serious injuries and taken to local hospital, whereas the third victim succumbed to injuries at the scene. He was identified by his family as Lovemore Fortune Magabe (25).

Police opened a case of murder for further investigation.

“Members of community must trust Police with information about criminals, rather than taking the law into their own hands,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The police investigation is ongoing.
