Media Statement Police in Tshwane joined hands with various stakeholders in a concerted effort to address the proliferation of crimes against women, children and vulnerable person. On Friday, 21 October 2022 acting Tshwane District Commissioner, Brigadier Samuel Thine along with Station Commander: Temba, Brigadier and Station Commander: Hammanskraal, Lieutenant Colonel Mokwana hosted a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) dialogue at Sebothoma Hall in Temba. The event was supported by various stakeholders such as the Department of Community Safety, Department of Correctional Service, Department of Social Development, Department of Health, Department of Justice, Mabopane / Winterveld office of Kekana Royal Executive Council (Traditional Leaders Council), Vuka Enough, Avbob, Community Policing Forum (CPF). Also in attendance were SAPS members of the local Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units. The dialogue is necessitated to address the proliferation of gender-based violence against children and women in Temba and surrounding communities. The dialogue presented an opportunity for the various stakeholders and community members to build knowledge and raise awareness towards ending violence against all women, children and men; this initiative will continue throughout the district. Brigadier Thine in conclusion said "Gender-based violence (GBV) is a profound and widespread problem in the community. GBV affects almost every aspect of our life, especially when the victims are women and young girls. SAPS will continue to prioritise the safety of women and children at all times. I call upon victims, families, friends and neighbours to report GBV". Ends
