HERTZOGVILLE - The police welcomes the heavy sentence handed down to a 33-year-old man who violated a young initiate at a traditional school in Malebogo. The Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, through meticulous investigation, has ensured that justice was served for the victim.

On Saturday, 21 December 2023, at approximately 23:00, the victim, a 17-year-old initiate, was attending an initiation school gathering. The accused, Lenyatso Kase (33), who was acting as an assistant to the teachers at the school, forced his way into the victim's blankets and sexually assaulted him.

Following the ordeal, Kase threatened the teenager, warning him that should he speak out, he would instruct others to "sort him out."

The victim remained silent until the completion of the initiation period. Encouraged by a friend, he eventually reported the matter to the police. The case was assigned to Sgt Lydia Selemogo of the Bultfontein FCS Unit, whose dedicated work led to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspect.

Working in close collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), specifically Prosecutor Mr. Masisi, the team presented a strong case to the court. As a result, Lenyatso Kase was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

The Free State Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Apaphia Modise said "We remain committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society, particularly in spaces meant for cultural growth and transition. This sentence should serve as a stern warning to those who exploit their positions of authority to commit crimes against children"
