Police investigate inquest after shack fire

GQEBERHA - SAPS Walmer detectives opened an inquest after a shack fire claimed the life of a 41-year-old man in Airport Valley early Sunday morning 30 October 2022.

It is alleged that at approximately 04:00 on abovementioned date, SAPS Walmer responded to a complaint of a house (shack) in Airport Valley, Walmer Location that was burning.  On arrival they were informed that a woman and her boyfriend were sleeping in the shack. When they woke up, they noticed that the shack was burning. The woman ran out to get help and was under the impression that her boyfriend followed her however the fire spread and two more shacks burned down.  After the fire was extinguished, the body of Siphosethu Magebula (41) was found.

The cause of the fire is unknown. An inquest was opened at Walmer and will be investigated.
