Media Statement EASTERN CAPE - Osman Omara (29) was remanded in custody by the New Brighton Magistrates' Court pending his formal bail application on 28 November 2022. This is subsequent to his arrest by the Gqeberha based Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members for allegations of unlawful possession of firearm on 17 November 2022. It is alleged that on 17 November 2022 at about 14:15, the members received information that there was an illegal firearm at a shop in Mission Valley. Upon arrival at the shop, the members searched the premises and a 9mm Glock firearm with nine rounds of ammunition was recovered. The suspect was detained as he could not give an explanation of having the firearm in his possession. The matter was referred to the Gqeberha based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation as the description of the firearm fits one of the firearms that were stolen in a housebreaking incident at the Traffic and Licencing Centre in Kirkwood on 29 October 2022. The Provincial Head, Major General Obed Ngwenya welcomed the news with a thrill as it is a step towards the cracking of the burglary case. Ends
