EASTERN CAPE - A 70-year-old man was arrested by the District's Operational Crime Combat Team that conducted an operation at Mfinizweni locality in Lusikisiki in the early hours of today at about 03h45. The suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with nine (09) rounds of ammunition. He will appear before Lusikisiki Magistrate Court today facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He will be profiled and linked to other crimes and the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.

“We would like to inform illegal firearm owners that our government has extended the firearm amnesty from 01 August until 31 December 2020. We encourage and urge people to surrender these firearms and ammunition for destruction. These can be handed in to their nearest police stations." Said the District Commissioner Major General David Kanuka.
