Media Statement from North West Media Centre Potchefstroom: Police in Brits arrested a 45-year-old suspect at Oukasie location near Brits on Friday, 31 March 2017 for illegal possession of schedule 2, 3, 4 and 5 medicines. The suspect's arrest came after the police swiftly responded to a tip-off. It is alleged that following the tip-off, the police went to the suspect's place where they conducted a search. It was during the search that boxes containing various medicines worth R50 000,00 were found inside the house. The suspect was then arrested after failing to account for possession of the medicines. He is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates' Court on Monday, 03 April 2017 for contravention of Section 22 (a) of Medicines and Related Substances Act, 1965 (Act No. 101 of 1965) and Section 17 (1)(a) of Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act No. 56 of 1974).
