WESTERN CAPE - Committed to keep their communities safe and free from drugs, police members responded to the call of the community and arrested suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and drugs in two isolated incidents. Police members of Operation Restore were busy with patrols on Thursday 15 December 2022, when they responded to information pertaining to drugs and firearms at a house in Kallossie Street in Rosendal, Delft. Upon arrival at the address they found an unknown man who immediately tried to flee, but he was apprehended by the police members. They searched the man and confiscated a revolver with ammunition. The 24-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members continued with an intense search of the premises and confiscated drugs and cash. They arrested and detained a 69-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs. In an unrelated intervention three unknown armed suspects entered a local store in Dal Josafat in Paarl on Friday 16 December 2022. They emptied the cash registers and fled the scene. As they were outside the building they fired numerous gunshots at the complainant and his father. The owner of the shop managed to return fire wounding the suspect with the firearm. The local police patrol vehicle who was nearby responded to the sound of gunshots and the complainant pointed out the suspect. The police members gave chase and apprehended the suspect and searched him, confiscating a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested the 44-year-old man on charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in Bellville and Paarl Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
