Six males and a female suspect arrested in Cambridge after a 39-year-old male was assaulted by community members resulted in his death.

It’s alleged that on 23 December 2022 at approximately 10:00 the mother of the deceased was at her shack in Amalinda Forest informal settlement in Cambridge when it was reported to her by her son in law that her son is being assaulted at Amalinda open space by the community members.

The mother then went to the place where the assault was taking place and came across community members assaulting her son. He was being assaulted and burned. The mother was unable to stop the attack.

When the attack stopped the son was severely injured and was taken to hospital for treatment by the paramedics. Her son passed away the following day, 24 December 2022 at 15:00. The mother was able to identify some of the suspects involved in the attack.

Further investigation was conducted and members managed to arrest the suspects facing charges of murder and possession of suspected stolen property. All suspects will appear before the Magistrates’ Court soon.
