Media Statement from KwaZulu-Natal Media Centre The uMhlali SAPS have arrested a suspect (19) after investigating a case of kidnapping, rape and murder of a five-year-old girl from Etete in Umhlali area. It is alleged that on 04 July 2015 at about 5:30 aunt woke up in order to do her daily chores and discovered that the front door was wide opened, on inspection she noticed that her niece was missing. She searched the premises but the girl was nowhere to be found. A case was opened for investigation and a search was conducted. Later that day the missing girl was found in a storm water drain and was taken to hospital in a critical condition where she later died. Post mortem will be conducted to establish how she died as well as whether she was raped. Following an intensive investigation police were able to locate the whereabouts of a suspect and was arrested. He is expected to appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrate Court today facing murder and kidnapping. KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police for swift arrest, “Detectives will work hard to gather enough evidence that will be used in court against the suspect. It is disturbing to hear that a minor was brutally killed in such a manner,” she said. -End-
