Media Statement ZWELITSHA - The South African Police Service (SAPS) is currently conducting an investigation of an alleged rape of a minor child, whose mother is a serving police officer. The SAPS condemns this heinous crime in the strongest terms and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim while providing all necessary support to the affected family. The incident was reported on 16 October 2024 to Matatiele SAPS. A case of rape was registered, and the suspect(s) are still being sought. The victim, a minor, received medical and psychological care. The SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is handling the investigation with the utmost urgency. The victim was referred to a Thuthuzela Care Centre for specialized medical and trauma support. The mother, being a SAPS member, is receiving employee wellness support, including counselling through the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) Unit. The SAPS is working closely with social workers and victim support organizations to ensure the family receives comprehensive assistance.
