EASTERN CAPE - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Nelson Mandela Bay District proudly hosted a dynamic two-day sporting event, the “District Commissioner’s Cup,” on 7 and 8 May 2025 at the SAPS Kemsley Park Sports Grounds in Mount Croix. The event united members from across the district in a spirited display of athleticism, teamwork, and camaraderie, reinforcing the importance of physical fitness and unity within the Service. The event saw participation from all 18 police stations within the NMB District, alongside three specialized units: the Public Order Policing, the Anti-Gang Unit, and the Crime Combatting Unit. Teams competed in both the soccer and netball matches, creating an atmosphere of unity, competitive spirit, and mutual encouragement. Speaking at the event was the SAPS District Commissioner for Nelson Mandela Bay, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, who underscored the vital role of health and wellness in effective policing. “We are encouraging various stations to compete on the sports field not only to strengthen team spirit but also to promote health and wellness within our SAPS family,” said Major General Ncata. “Policing can be physically demanding, and it is essential that we foster a culture of fitness and well-being among our members. Events like these provide an opportunity for unity, motivation, and physical development,” he concluded. The event drew strong support from SAPS members, their families, and community supporters. It was further bolstered by several official sponsors whose generous contributions helped make the event a resounding success. Major General Ncata expressed his sincere appreciation to all the sponsors, highlighting the value of growing partnerships between SAPS and the private sector. The event was meticulously coordinated by the local organizing committee, led by Colonel Gwe, who was praised for ensuring the smooth running of all activities throughout the two days. The overall champions in both categories hailed from SAPS Mount Road, who displayed outstanding performance and teamwork.
