POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded Warrant Officer Chuene  Selolo of the Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit for her meticulous investigation and determination that led to the long incarceration of a  life sentence and six years imprisonment by the Mankweng Regional Court  this week against two men convicted of raping  and sexually assaulting  two children in separate incidents in Sebayeng policing precinct outside Mankweng.

A 34-year-old man was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment on a charge of rape of a six year old girl. On 19 October 2018, the accused called the victim to his house next door and raped her. Several days later, the victim informed her other neighbour who immediately alerted the victim's mother about the incident. Police were notified and they opened a case of rape. The suspect was arrested on the same day.

Warrant Officer Selolo also managed to expose a 58-year-old man, for his uncalled for behaviour of sexually abusing an eleven year old girl at his home. On 26 April 2021, the accused saw the victim passing his house and called her. He then lured her to his bedroom where he started to kiss and inappropriately touched her. The accused then tried to undress but the victim managed to escape and informed her aunt upon arrival at home.

A case of sexual assault was opened at Sebayeng Police Station and the suspect was arrested. The accused was sentenced six years imprisonment of which half of the sentence was suspended.

Both accused made several court appearances and they were eventually granted bail. The investigating officer Warrant Officer Selolo worked around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators are convicted of the crimes and receive hefty sentences.

Lieutenant General Hadebe welcomed the sentences which will definitely send a strong warning that offenders including those who commit sexual offenses will face the full might of the law.
