Life serving prisoner sentenced to additional two life sentences

DURBAN – On 1 February 2023, the Durban High has sentenced Sabelo Majozi (26), who is currently serving a life sentence after he was convicted of rape, has been sentenced to a further two life jail term after he was found guilty of murder and rape. He will serve an additional 50 years behind bars following his conviction on two counts of rape.

From June 2020 until April 2021, Majozi would prey on women who were alone at home in and around KwaDukuza and Maphumulo area. On 2 April 2021, he raped three women including a nine-year-old who was also strangled to death at her home in Woza, Maphumulo.

Majozi fled the area after the incident and was on the run until 18 April 2021 when he was caught after raping a 14-year-old girl in Ntuzuma. He was tried in court and his bail was denied. In 2022 he was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape that he committed in Ntuzuma. He made several court appearances and he pleaded guilty to his charges on 26 January 2023.
