EASTERN CAPE - Kholosa Qupha (50) a prosecutor who is a former administrative clerk at the Department of Justice has been served with summons on 24 February 2025, facing allegations of fraud. Her being served with summons came after she was arrested by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in 2021 at Plettenberg Bay. Qupha’s co-accused Patricia Nobantu Xaki (58) and Victoria Noyolo (54) were sentenced and fined in 2021. In October 2012, it is alleged that a complaint was lodged by the Department of Justice regarding fraudulent activities conducted by the Department employees (Admin Clerks) at the Mthatha Magistrate Court. The employees allegedly created fraudulent maintenance ghost files for non-existing people and ostensibly made payments of maintenance to the value of R700 000, 00 for their personal gain. The matter was reported to Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. After thorough investigation, the suspect who was working at the maintenance section was subsequently arrested in 2021 and appeared the same day at Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court where she was released on warning. During court proceedings Qupha did not plead guilty, as a result a separation of trials was implemented and later the case was reportedly struck-off-the roll. Further investigations led Qupha being served with summons to appear before the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes court on 31 March 2025. Ends
