EASTERN CAPE - A 51-year-old former deputy director from the Department of Community Safety was arrested on 31 July 2025 for allegedly using a fraudulent degree to secure employment within the department.

The arrest follows an intelligence investigation by the fraud unit, which confirmed that the suspect had submitted a forged qualification from Vista University. Once the degree was verified as fake, a warrant of arrest was issued.

She was apprehended at her home in Gqeberha and shortly appeared before the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court on the same day. She was released on R2000 bail, and her case has been postponed to 18 August 2025.

The accused is facing charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering, and is expected to appear at the East London Regional Court on her next court date.
