DURBAN - Police officers from the Durban Public Order Police Project Team embarked on an intelligence operation last night until this morning in Makhabeleni area.

The team was following up on information about a suspect who was in possession of illegal firearms. The team proceeded to a house in Wolongo area that falls under Ematimatolo policing area where they conducted a search. Upon searching the house, the police found three rifles and a shotgun. A total of 205 various rounds of ammunition and two empty magazines were seized by police.

The owner of the firearms was not in the house when the police arrived. Investigations are still underway while the owner of the firearms is still being traced by police. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.
