WESTERN CAPE - Ongoing efforts to root out crime in the Western Cape resulted in multiple arrests over the weekend. Members of Operation Restore who were strategically deployed in the Mfuleni policing precinct, confiscated two firearms and an imitation firearm at Felicity Street, New Beginning on Saturday, 04 March 2023. The members were busy with high density operations when they received information about a local shop that allegedly harbours drugs and guns for extortionists. They searched the premises and found two firearms, one imitation firearm, 55 rounds of ammunition, four magazines and one packet of tik. Two men aged 32 and 22 were arrested. They will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s court once they have been charged. In another incident, on Sunday, 05 March 2023, members of Harare Operation Restore were doing their operation duties at 38 Block when they came across a group of community members chasing two males on foot. The members intervened and they were told that the two males robbed people of their cellular telephones at gun point. They immediately pursued the suspects and arrested a 22 year old male. He had the stolen items in his possession and an imitation firearm. The suspect was arrested and detained at Harare SAPS. Once charged, he will make his court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court. Meanwhile, Operation Restore members deployed for disruptive operations in Delft arrested a 36 year old female for dealing in drugs in Gedwick Street, Delft. The suspect saw a marked police vehicle and ran inside a yard. The members gave chase and she was found with 73 mandrax tablets, five packets of tik and an undisclosed amount cash.
The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court, once she has been charged.
