Elephant tusks dealers nabbed in a sting operation

GAUTENG – Ratshilumela Sadam Tshishonga (31), David Muhoma (39), and Tapiwa Agripa Chikomo (35), have appeared in the Pretoria Magistarte’s Court yesterday for illegal possession and trading in elephant tusks.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime investigation team sprang into action on Sunday afternoon after intelligence was gathered about the trio’s planned trade of protected species. The team embarked on a surveillance mission at Irene Village Mall. At around 11:30, the trio was spotted in the vicinity, engaged and arrested after two tusks were retrieved. 

The trio has been charged for contravention of National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act. The court remanded them in custody pending their next court appearance on Thursday, 23 March 2023, for a bail application.
