Nelspruit: Today two male suspects aged 19 and 25 are expected to appear in court after being arrested by the police on charges of dealing in dagga as well as for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa. The two were nabbed by members from Border Policing at the Oshoek Port of Entry in the afternoon of Monday, 27 March 2023 around 12:30.

This arrest was effected during the time when the pair attempted to take chances and traffic a consignment of dagga from the Kingdom of Eswatini into South Africa. Members were on guard whilst conducting routine duties when they came across the two suspects near the N17 Road, outside the Port of Entry. They were allegedly in possession of dagga concealed with some clothes and compressed inside the bags.

The two were immediately arrested by the men and women in blue then charged for dealing in dagga and their consignment was confiscated as well. The weight of the seized dagga is at 4.8 kilograms with an estimated street value of around R20 160-00. In collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, police laid an additional charge of contravention of the Immigration Act against the two suspects after discovering that they are foreign nationals but without valid documentation to be in South Africa.
