Suspect arrested for dagga trafficking

NELSPRUIT - A 26-year-old suspect travelled all the way from Luve in the Kingdom of Eswatini sacrificing his life by illegally crossing the Borderline in the middle of the night with the aim of trafficking dagga to South Africa.

Luck was not on his side as Mananga Port of Entry police task team spotted him in Schoemansdal, Matsamo mall taxi rank this morning, Monday 17 April 2023 at about 06:00.

Through his permission, police searched his bag and 6.98 kilograms of compressed dagga estimated street value of R28 065-00 was found.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was trafficking the dagga from the Kingdom of Eswatini to Marite in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

The suspect was arrested, charged and is expected to appear in Nkomazi Magistrate's Court tomorrow, Tuesday 18 April 2023.

This arrest comes shortly after a 50-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday, Sunday 16 April 2023 at 07:45 with 11,066 kilograms estimated street value of R46 077-00 at the same place, Matsamo mall taxi rank.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the job well done by the team and promised to strengthen patrols in the area.
