BETHLEHEM - The Senekal and Ladybrand police have arrested two suspects in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in the township and Maseru Border Post. On 27 April 2023, the Senekal police arrested the suspect in possession of ammunition at Matwabeng. He was further interrogated with regard to firearm and directed police to his friend. The friend was traced and handed the 9mm firearm and 13 live rounds to the police which were hidden in a shallow grave. He was arrested and detained. Both suspects are expected to appear before the Senekal Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 2 May 2023 facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On 28 April 2023, the Ladybrand Port Entry police at Maseru Bridge were busy with stop and search when they found a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. It was discovered that the firearm was stolen from a certain man in Gauteng. The suspect, who is a foreign national, is expected to appear before the Ladybrand Magistrate Court on Tuesday 2 May 2023 facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
