Three suspects arrested for murder of a police officer

KING WILIAM’S TOWN – Mthatha SAPS made a major breakthrough when they arrested three (3) suspects and charged them for the murder of a police officer who was shot while on-duty at Libode on Tuesday, 24 March 2015.  The suspects were arrested early today, 24 April 2015 at Qumbu at about 3:00.

Kubobonke Madikane (24), Someleze Ngqongwa (24) and Andisile Mbara (22) appeared briefly at Libode Magistrate’s Court facing charges of murder, burglary and attempted murder. All the suspects were denied bail and remanded in custody. They are expected to appear in the Libode Magistrate’s Court on 6 May 2015.

This arrest follows after SAPS members were attacked while responding to a complaint of a robbery in progress at Libode Post Office on Tuesday, 24 March 2015 at about 23:00.

On arrival, the members saw three (3) people on the roof of the Post Office and the shack next to it. The members were shot at by unknown people and they fired back and crossfire began. W/O Dukuza and Constable Madolo were hit by some of the bullets and injured. They were rushed to hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately,  W/O Mlungiseleli Dukuza (55) passed away on 25 March 2015.

Eastern Cape Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zamuthonga Mki welcomed the arrest and congratulated the investigating team for the good work. “ Any person who attack or kills a police official will face the full might of the law”, he said.

The SAPS further urges members of the community to remain vigilant and continue to report criminal activities to the police.
