FREE STATE - A 32-year-old suspect was arrested for the alleged rape and murder of two people and attempted murder.

In November 2021, the suspect went to a tavern in Section L, Botshabelo, to meet with a 29-year-old female friend. He called her to his vehicle and ended up forcing himself on her while in the vehicle. He later let the victim go, who went straight to the local police and opened a case of rape.

On 20 February 2022 at about 01:50, a 37-year-old victim was at a tavern in Section A, Botshabelo, and met with the suspect, who took out a firearm and started shooting at him. The victim was shot in the head, neck and chest and he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The same morning, at about 03:30, a married couple came from the same tavern and had just arrived at home in Section A when the armed suspect and his friend shot the 30-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife. The husband was declared dead at the scene. The female victim survived with gunshot wounds to the body. Two murder scenes were opened for investigation and the manhunt was launched.

The suspect managed to evade arrest but was finally arrested after the Selosesha Tactical Response Team Unit received intelligence-led information on his whereabouts. He was found hiding at a house in Thaba Nchu on 09 May 2023 and will appear in court tomorrow for rape and two counts of murder.
