LIMPOPO The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has learned with shock of an incident in which three children, aged between 2 and 4, died after a fire broke out at Itsani village on Friday, 29 August 2025.

Police on duty received a report about a house on fire with children trapped inside. They urgently proceeded to the scene, where firefighters were already battling the blaze. Once the fire was extinguished, the bodies of the three children were discovered, burned beyond recognition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had been playing near a one-room house, but it remains unclear how they ended up inside. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

The Provincial Commissioner has directed that forensic and fire experts be brought in to assist with the investigation. She has also instructed police to investigate the possibility of charging the parents or guardians with negligence or failure to protect minors.

Police investigations are continuing.
