LIMPOPO - On 20 August 2025, at approximately 11:30, the Vala Umgodi Task Team (Mopani) conducted an intelligence-led operation at Skimming Village following information about illegal sand mining activity along the Molototsi River.

Upon arrival, police observed a truck and a front-end loader (TLB) actively engaged in sand extraction. The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene, while the operator of the TLB fled, abandoning the machine.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities that threaten the environment and public safety. Investigations are ongoing.

Members of the public are urged to report any illegal mining activity to their nearest police station or to the SAPS crime line on 08600 10111.
